- 3:30 p.m. Cards for Heroes: Make a difference and help contribute to a nationwide volunteer effort called Cards for Heroes. Crafters will make handmade cards and send them to volunteers who will distribute the cards to troops and soldiers serving in the military.

It’s around that time when everyone wants to let their loved ones know they are thinking about them. Come make cards for troops in the military
to send home. You will be helping out a nationwide effort called Cards for Heroes.
The program will be at the Davidson Public Library on November 12, 2009 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For middle school age and up.

4:00 p.m. The Chatroom: A book discussion group for middle and high school aged students. This month we are reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. Through twists and turns of fate, orphaned Mary seeks knowledge of life, love, and especially what lies beyond her walled village and the surrounding forest, where dwell the unconsecrated, aggressive flesh-eating people who were once dead.

The zombie party went so well last night! The Davidson staff would like to thank our teen advisory committee and Bev for their hard work planning and decorating. Everything looked great. We’d also like to thank Amy Wyckoff for orchestrating the author visit and Martha for making the yummy brain cake.
Of course, we can’t stop thanking Carrie Ryan for coming. She was the icing on our brain cake.

Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby
Duncan is a huge fan of the reclusive artist Tucker Crowe. He analyzes Tucker’s lyrics, fan websites, and the resulting gossip that spans the globe. Duncan’s girlfriend Annie accepted his obsession when she first met him, but when they form clashing opinions over Tucker’s new release, anxiety grows between them. Annie’s review of the album gains attention from the artist himself, and they end up exchanging emails without Duncan’s knowledge.
The novel captures human emotions and the tendency toward obsessive behavior. The flaws of Duncan, Annie, and the artist Tucker Crowe make the characters believable. The readers are witnesses to the rambling thoughts that make the book a real testament to human nature.
